Why Localflavormagazine Exists
Localflavormagazine is a small independent magazine about eating, getting outdoors and making things in northern and central New Mexico. It is written for residents who want a fresh idea for the weekend, for visitors planning a few days between Santa Fe and Albuquerque, and for anyone who likes knowing the story behind a plate, a trout stream or a handmade bowl.
Three subjects we return to
- Santa Fe and Albuquerque Dining looks at red and green chile, bakeries, family restaurants, food trucks, markets and the habits of eating well in two very different cities.
- Outdoors and Fishing covers day trips, river access, seasonal conditions, basic gear and the courtesy that keeps public land welcoming.
- Arts and Artisans follows galleries, studio visits, markets and traditional crafts such as pottery, weaving, jewelry and woodwork.
How we work
The goal is useful, practical writing you can act on. Details such as hours, menus, licence requirements, access rules and seasonal closures are checked against official pages, agency notices and the businesses themselves where possible. When something is a matter of taste or changes with the weather, we say so plainly.
Places in this region move quickly. Restaurants change owners, rivers run high or low and studios shift their schedules, so older pages are revisited and updated when they no longer hold true.
Who reads it
Our readers include longtime locals, newcomers, road-trippers and casual anglers. Nothing here assumes a big budget, an expert’s gear or prior knowledge of the area.
